Dr Melville Omorlabie George is a public health expert and specialist clinician with more than 30 years of national and international Experience. A dental/oral surgeon, Dr Melville worked for many years at the Royal Victoria Hospital as a specialist. Dr George was Director for Medical Services, The Gambia, for 9 years, during which he oversaw the accelerated decentralization of health services through capacity building and institutional strengthening. He has over 20 years of international public health experience in leadership and managerial positions. He has served as the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Regional Advisor in health systems development and WHO country representative to Ghana and Uganda. Dr George has been a health and development consultant to international organizations like WHO and UNICEF, serving in several countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. His other portfolio includes Examiner West African College of surgeons, President of the Gambia Medical and Dental association, Chairman of The Gambia Medical and Dental Council and Chairman of the Gambia National Health Insurance Authority. His publication/research interests include using traditional means for better oral health as well as operation research on strengthening the primary health care system and the willingness/ability of Gambians to pay for health care services

About the Speaker

Dr. Wada is the Founder/CEO of Nisa Hospital as well as Chief Medical Adviser to Nisa Medical Group which also include the Institute of Medical Sciences Africa (IMSA). He obtained his MBBS degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1980. From 1982-1989, he held residency posts at Jos University Teaching Hospital; similarly, he held residency posts at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge UK 1986-1987 and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn 1988-1989. He was Clinical Research Fellow in Reproductive Medicine at Manchester Fertility Services, 1989-1990 and St. Mary’s Hospital, Manchester 1991-1992. He is a Fellow of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG) UK, Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) and has held Consultant posts at Bourn hall Clinic, Cambridge in 1992-1994, Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital 1994-1999 and Chief Consultant at the National Hospital, Abuja, 1999 – 2002. He was the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) at National Hospital from 2002 to 2004. He became the pioneer Medical Director of Garki Hospital Abuja, the first Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement following the signing of the Concession Agreement with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from 2007 to 2009 and now the Medical Adviser to the same hospital. He is the current President of the Association for Fertility and Reproductive Health (AFRH). In addition to his medical qualifications, Dr. Wada holds a Master of Business Administration in International Hospitals and Healthcare Management from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management in Germany. Dr. Wada is a recipient of the National Award of the Officer of the Order of Niger (OON) conferred on him by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2006; for his ground-breaking works in the field of In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) in medicine. He has authored in more than 20 academic research articles published in peer review journals and has published 2 books: The Second Chance and PPP in the Health Sector.
